Engineers on Games With Friends (GWF) support some of the world's largest mobile games on some of the world's largest infrastructures. Our servers and APIs support the mobile games that tens of millions of users enjoy every day, including Words With Friends. GWF runs one of the largest game deployments in the world, and we encounter and solve massive scalability challenges. As a Principal Software Engineer you'll develop and architect critical game components and systems that directly relate to the success of our games. You will collaborate with various teams like Product Managers, Producers, Game Design, UX etc. We are committed to providing an exciting and challenging career, centered around developing high quality mechanics that scale! ROLE

• Backend Engineer with experience in object oriented programming. We use Ruby/Rails, but are open to Java, Golang, C# etc.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and architect new backend applications/services running in AWS
• Document tech plans for new architecture/system designs
• Take a hands-on approach in writing and reviewing code
• Proactively identify & recommend improvements to address systemic pain points and tech debt
• Collaborate across teams to understand product/customer requirements and propose technical solutions
• Provide production & integration support for shared technology across Zynga games
• Strong Experience with LiveOps and incident handling situations.
• Experience building/maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Experience writing highly scalable systems
• Experience in Git or a similar version control system
• Experience with database systems (SQL and NoSQL)
• Deep understanding of algorithms, design patterns, debugging, security and performance optimization

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• BS in Computer Science or Engineering field with at least 8+years of development experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity
• Ability to work with other disciplines on features and tasks
• Provision, maintain infrastructure and container orchestration platforms hosting critical live services
• Experience writing highly scalable systems
• Prior Game Development Experience
• Knowledge of distributed systems
• Frontend experience
• Experience and strong skills with an Object Oriented language like Ruby/Rails, Java and with database technologies like MySQL

The pay range for this position in California at the start of employment is expected to be between $125,000 and $230,000 per Year.

However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
